It’s the largest fish in the whole world and it has been around for over 5 million years. They can reach up to 12 meters long and visit the Yucatan peninsula from May to September.
There are more than 800 whale sharks in the Mexican Caribbean that comes every year crossing the seas in search of food, small organisms called plankton. Explore the Mexican Caribbean to learn about the whale sharks and live nature at its best.
This is an activity for the whole family or solo, to experience a close encounter with marine life. Whale Sharks are gems of the Riviera Maya and we must care for them consciously to keep receiving their visit.
We ask you to be respectful and don’t get too close or touch the whale sharks during your tour.

Swim and Snorkel with Whale Sharks in Playa del Carmen
What to expect? Learn about the whale sharks and swim/snorkel with them, maybe even encounter devil manta rays beside them. Then, snorkel on a reef near Isla Mujeres to chill after this exciting experience of swimming with the largest shark in the world.
Itinerary: You will be picked up from your hotel between 4:40 am – 7 am depending on your starting location (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum – Akumal, Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres). Our boats are very close to Cancun.
We will give you an explanation of the tour while at your disposal you will have complimentary coffee, tea, juices and bread.
After the explanation and having answered all your questions we will leave in the boats, it normally takes about 45 minutes to reach the place of the whale sharks and there will be chances to see dolphins and manta rays on the way, you will be able to swim with the whale sharks two times and up to 3 or 4 if the conditions are perfect and the captain thinks it is safe to do it, the swim is done two by two in the water with our guide.
After swimming with the whale sharks we will go to Isla Mujeres.
During the journey, sandwiches, water and soft drinks are served. Once on the beach of Isla Mujeres while you relax in its crystalline waters, we will prepare a ceviche that you can enjoy with soft drinks or water.
Vegan or vegetarian food can be provided if you let us know in advance.

Important to mention
We want to mention that for this tour we cannot guarantee the sighting of the whale sharks, because nature cannot be controlled. Thus, we cannot make refunds if we do not see them. It is very rare for this to happen, and many times we see 20 or 50 or even more whale sharks but sometimes sea conditions do not allow us to see whale sharks despite all our efforts, please note that although unlikely that could happen to you. It is a federal rule since 2016 not to guarantee the sighting. This tour is not recommended for children under 4 years of age.
If there are no more than 2 sharks in sight we will not be able to swim with them, we will only be able to spot them from the boats. Whale Shark Federal Preservation and Conservation Rule
